Using both staff and volunteer attorneys, Legal Services of Southern Piedmont provides free civil legal services to eligible low-income persons who meet financial guidelines based on 125% of the federal poverty level. LSSP's primary priorities are to ensure that poor people have food, shelter, income and freedom from domestic violence. Legal Services helps people help themselves, by using self-help programs whenever possible to empower clients to represent themselves effectively. Founded in 1967, LSSP serves Cabarrus, Gaston, Mecklenburg, Stanly and Union counties of North Carolina. LSSP does not handle criminal or traffic cases.

EASE, Inc. was incorporated on April 10, 1995 as a non-profit Employment Assistance Service with the purpose of providing comprehensive workforce preparedness and employment opportunities for economically challenged populations such as dislocated workers, juvenile and adult offenders, substance abusers, homeless individuals/families, welfare recipients, displaced home-makers, the working poor, and at risk youth. EASE, Inc. applied for and received funding from the North Carolina Criminal Justice Partnership Advisory Board under the Federal Crime Prevention Act in December 1995 to set up and implement employment services for Intermediate Level Offenders at the then Durham County Day Reporting Center (now Durham County Criminal Justice Resource Center). On January 2, 1996, EASE Inc. moved into office space at 301 W. Main Street, Suite 470 in downtown Durham. Development of operational structure and the service delivery program took place during the initial three-month phase.

In May of 2003, Mark Prokop was given 3 months notice of a layoff at his company. It was then that he decided to take this opportunity to follow his calling and develop a non-profit organization that would meet the needs of those in the Triangle area underserved by existing organizations and institutions. After careful research, he discovered the following:> The number of senior citizens in the Triangle that needed assistance was increasing faster than services could be provided to them by existing non-profits, religious communities, and government agencies.> Individuals, couples, and families in the Triangle were running out of food more often than ever before. Many people were running out of food for the first time in their life.> Homeless Shelters, Rescue Missions, and Transitional Housing Centers in the Triangle were feeding more individuals and families than ever before.Friends of Triangle Seniors and Food Assistance (FTSFA) was formed in July, 2003 by Mark Prokop, Executive Director.In order to effectively address the identified needs, FTSFA has two different programs with individual mission statements. Mission of Friends of Triangle Seniors Program:Help Senior Citizens in the Triangle (Orange, Durham, and Wake Counties in North Carolina) with a variety of tasks which Senior Citizens are physically unable or need assistance to perform.Mission of Triangle Food Assistance Program:Immediate Needs:To provide food to individuals and families in the Triangle who are in need of food.Movable Food:To provide a timely service where perishable food gets picked up and delivered to Triangle organizations / individuals that need the food on the same/next day basis.

Homeless Prevention was founded in the late 1990's and grew from one individual serving the unmet needs of Americans - poor, disabled and homeless, who receive no help from government, shelters and community programs. The unseen needs of the working Hidden Homeless, homeless children avoiding Child Protective Services and elderly 80-90 year-olds who are non-addicted, honest, Christian and moral have been rising world-wide. Our volunteers meet the unmet needs in their local communities in any country by doing for those in need what they can't do for themselves, including making a phone call or giving a ride. Projects include: mobile meals, habitat-for-humanity type projects, mobile distribution of food and clothing, rides for health care and arranging housing at a lower cost than gov't subsidized housing, providing jobs and job services, free housing and arranging housing in volunteers' homes. Our founder serves and trains others to serve in suicide prevention, hospital visits, prison ministry, ministry to new ministers and missionaries, Bible Studies and teen ministry. Our founder served in missions in 9 states and networked individuals in Service to Americans into two groups - secular at www.HomelessEast.org and Domestic Christian Missions and Missionaries at www.LocalMissions.org. It is the only service agency in the Piedmont Triad that addresses these needs for all types of cancer patients. Cancer Services accepts individual contributions, corporate contributions, matching gifts, memorials and honorariums.
