Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras, Inc (301)582-5801 5301 Tuckerman Lane North Bethesda, MD 20852 website: http://mcyo.org Our purposes are twofold. First, and most importantly, MCYO seeks to provide the diverse children of greater Washington with an exceptional orchestral training program. Our region is rich with talented young children, who come from many social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds. Our goal is to bring them together in a program that spurs their musical talents to new heights. MCYO seeks to meet the need of serious young musicians, whose intellectual and musical development profit enormously from a serious ensemble playing experience. Research continues to show a strong link between the study of music and brain development in children. Students from our program demonstrate the point, going on to distinguished careers, often, but not necessarily in music. Many of them credit MCYO as a formative feature of their early lives, having given them skills and confidence to succeed in music or any discipline they choose. Our second purpose is to provide the Washington community with quality orchestral programs performed by an extraordinarily talented and diverse group of young people. MCYO's move into residence at the Music Center at Strathmore gives us the opportunity to present more music, inexpensively, to more people. From Strathmore, we also hope to send our five orchestras, particularly our elite and mobile string orchestra, Sinfonia, out into the community to provide music where perhaps it has not often been heard before.

Daughter For The Day, Inc. 4400 Stamp Road Temple Hills, MD 20748 website: http://www.daughterfortheday.org Daughter For The Day volunteers are able to provide a myriad of services to our seniors. From reading mail, to accompanying seniors on doctor visits, to helping seniors complete and file insurance forms, our services are many and varied. One of the main services we provide is the ability to help with the running of errands; the various outings that most people take for granted, but that can become challenging to people in their golden years. These outings, to the grocery store or to the shopping mall, obviously provide the direct benefit of allowing the senior to accomplish whatever errand needs to be accomplished. However, we also encourage and expect our Daughters to take advantage of the time spent with our clients to establish personal relationships above and beyond the scope of the task at hand. It is within our purview to stop for tea or for lunch on the way home, or to otherwise design an outing in such a fashion, as to encourage and facilitate personal interactions. We encourage the senior to view the running of an errand as an opportunity to get out of the house and spend a little quality time with someone whom they will come to view in much the same way as they would view a close friend or a daughter.
