Shalom's mission is to decrease the effect of risk factors that might create barriers to achievement of each person's potential and to fortify those resources that support their success. In order to accomplish this goal, we provide prevention, intervention, training and treatment services to students, parents, school staff and members of the community. Many issues are addressed in the provision of these services. These include, but are not limited to, coping skills, family problems, child abuse, sexual abuse, gambling problems, eating disorders, peer problems, anger and violence. Prevention and intervention services seek to minimize risks for abusive behavior and to promote strengths that are protective factors. School-based services are provided primarily in the non-public schools of Philadelphia, although we do provide Student Assistance Program assessment services in some Philadelphia Public Schools. The Shalom Counseling Program provides treatment and aftercare services for issues surrounding substance abuse and other behavioral health issues such as depression, anxiety, and school, family and relationship problems. Treatment and DUI services are provided in our Central Office on Delaware Avenue.
