Birthmothers was founded in 1996 by Jim Wright, an adoptive father, when after he and his wife witnessed the difficulties of many women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. After researching existing programs, Jim developed an innovative Friends program which matches each pregnant woman who calls our Toll Free Number 1-877-77BIRTH with one, trained volunteer Friend who will listen and provide personal, nonjudgmental assistance. The one-on-one caregiving of a Birthmother Friend connects each pregnant woman with resources she needs to choose life for her baby and to build hope for herself - including facilitating adoption when a woman concludes it is in the best interests of herself and her child.
